Canoeing & sketching & writing.
First you have to learn how to cooperate to make the canoe go where you want
to go.
And sometimes it's just too much effort to keep paddling!

Jane patrols Douthat Lake in her kayak.
Scavenger hunting without leaving the canoe is a challenge...
And so is writing and sketching in a canoe!
Dragonflies provided material for several sketches and poems.
Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis)
Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctosa)
Calico Pennant (Celithemis elisa)
Wind

It's whispering in my ear.
Why can't we see it?

Dragonflies
on Douthat Lake
flying in circles
around each other.
-- Kaleb (He thought he was taking field notes, but it came out as
a poem.)
Dragonfly
Buzzing all around
Wings fluttering in the air
Metallic Turquoise

Mucking around in the vernal pool. Doesn't that water just look refreshing?!
