Cranberry Glades

Some of us were ready to go while others were still getting breakfast.

Three cheers for the bus!

The Cranberry Glades are ecological communities left over from the Ice Age 12,000 years ago. They are more like Canada and Minnesota than West Virginia.

The Glades harbor a number of specialized plants, including this Grass-Pink Orchid.

The sundew is one of two insectivorous plants in the Glades.

The Pitcher Plant is the other insectivorous plant.

Bee Balm -- a relatively common wildflower.

Jewelweed -- the crushed leaves relieve the itch of poison ivy.

The Cranberry Glades Nature Center attracts hummingbirds to its feeders.
