Cranberry Glades

Our excursion to the Cranberry Glades near Marlinton, WV is a trip to a botanical wonderland.

The Cranberry Glades are noted for their insectivorous plants.


The tiny sundew traps insects on its sticky surface.


The pitcher plant has unique flowers above the pitchers that capture insects.

The Cranberry Glades are also noted for the variety of wildflowers in the area.


The namesake of the area: the tiny bog cranberry in bloom.

Birds are attracted to the feeders and native wildflowers around the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center.


Ruby-throated hummingbirds.


Barn swallow.


When it's all over, then tents need to be thoroughly dried for storage until next year.


Normally, we like to sun-dry the tents, but the weather isn't cooperating, so we'll try to get them dry enough inside.
