Most of the day was spent collecting data along a 50-m transect through the forest.
Here we're examining ground cover on a 1 sq meter subplot.
Sometimes the study plots are challenging, such as this one where two fallen logs
intersected on the ground.
Benny noticed that our transect ran right alongside a relatively rare plant -
pinesaps, a close relative of Indian Pipe.
Our annual talent show had a change of venue this year. Our usual picnic shelter had
been taken over by a church group, so we had it around a campfire at our campsite.
We finished the day with a program on night sounds and some night journaling, but by then it was too dark for photos.
This nursery web spider was on one of our sampled trees directly at "breast height". She is
carrying an egg sac and is missing front and back legs on her right side.
