Amazing Insects--Mostly Large & Ugly
It must be all the rain we've had this year (2003), but students keep bringing in the most amazing insects.
This fearsome-looking 4-inch long creature is the "Hickory Horned Devil"--the harmless caterpillar of the Regal Moth (Citheronia regalis). Impressive!
Last night (9/10/03) this 2-inch long "gentleman" was found belly-up in a classroom. It's really quite a find--the male Eastern Hercules (or Rhinoceros) Beetle (Dynastes tityus).
